ABOUT US 

Since Amend’s founding in 2005, our aim has been to use science, evidence-based programs and advocacy to help ensure safe, healthy and equitable journeys in developing countries as they grow and mobilize.

We have offices in Ghana, Mozambique and Tanzania and run programs in more than a dozen countries in the developing world at any given time, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa.

Developing countries are doing just that: developing. And the increased mobilization that comes with it opens new horizons in business, education, healthcare, and other areas of opportunity.

But currently, cities and transport systems are not being planned and built with the safety and well-being of the vast majority of citizens in mind. For instance, Africa has the highest road traffic injury rates in the world, and at schools around the continent, more than 1% of students are injured in road traffic every year. In many cities, three-hour commutes to work on overcrowded, unsafe public transport are the norm.

The solutions to challenges like these are well-known: safe infrastructure that accommodates and facilitates the ways people actually live and move, evidence-based laws and regulations, and political will.

These are enormous issues, and their trajectory is not going to be changed overnight. This is why we work to save and improve lives in developing countries today via the implementation of proven-effective programs, while helping to build a safer, healthier future through research and advocac
